Just got back from WOMAD 2007, Our tenth WOMAD running drumcircles.
Logistical problems were paramount. Mud everywhere, no vehicles moving on site so the normal drumcircle was just not possible.Couldn't get the drums there and they would have been destroyed by mud , oh and there were no chairs because they were on the other side of the site.
Anyway we agreed to get everything we could personally carry from our van and see what we could do. We still managed to occupy two hundred people with soundshapes and hand percussion and really enjoyed it.
If you were there tell us how it was for you.
Two main songs were Fanga and Eh Away.
MP3 of Eh Away is here
Did you take any photos? email them to me and I will post them up.

WOMAD drumming in the mud

Re: WOMAD drumming in the mud
Yes - It was a difficult Womad!
Here's a photograph of our 'Gallery in the Swamp". We were on the edge of a 2ft deep (in parts) river of thick liquid mud, oozing down the slope, through our stall. Aaahh...!! Thanks to Michael's former life, as a landscape gardner/groundsman, and with much willing help from our fantastic crew - loads of trenching was dug, and mud was scraped, the river diverted, and a rising lake behind us drained, which was starting to engulf the whole neighbourhood. Our gallent crew kept the show on the road! And we were able to open for business! Extreme Trading - in a survival situation! Lots of lovely people! - and thanks to all those women and men, who bought our jewellery - despite such difficult conditions! Well done John and Janey - doing fantastic drum circles - without the drums!! Trackbacks
