View Article  13 Teachers and Assistants attended the Yeovil Training Day in November 2007
There were 13 teachers and assistants attending from primary and special schools. In the morning participants played a balance of drums and percussion instruments together. By creating the music first hand they learnt skills and ideas about what it takes to create rhythms, improvise and be part of a music ensemble.   more »

View Article  WOMAD drumming in the mud
Just got back from WOMAD 2007, Our tenth WOMAD running drumcircles.
Logistical problems were paramount. Mud everywhere, no vehicles moving on site so the normal drumcircle was just not possible.Couldn't get the drums there and they would have been destroyed by mud , oh and there were no chairs because they were on the other side of the site.
Anyway we agreed to get everything we could personally carry from our van and see what we could do. We still managed to occupy two hundred people with soundshapes and hand percussion and really enjoyed it.
If you were there tell us how it was for you.
Two main songs were Fanga and Eh Away.
MP3 of Eh Away is here
Did you take  any photos? email them to me and I will post them up.

View Article  Brighton school samba and African music module inspiration
Vanessa Thomas, a super excited music teacher greeted me with an equally excited team of Year 5's to carry and set up instruments in their small hall.
Two groups from  Year 3 and Year 5.  Year 5's  wanted to add inspiration and ideas to their African music module which would contribute to a future whole school performance,  while the younger Year 3's wanted ideas and experience for their imminent participation in a Brighton childrens samba workshop.
As well as experiencing different instruments in the percussion orchestra children had opportunities to lead and conduct and input rhythmic ideas.  We also added in DrumCrazy simple call and answer songs.
It felt like there was a lot of excitement with all the children and that by the end of the day they experienced some great music when they were committed to working together, responding to each other  rather than as individuals trying to make the loudest noise.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lovely day with sunshine shared by all.
